A RARE CONVERTED 14-BORE TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN BY W. MACLAUCHLAN, no visible serial number,
converted from muzzle-loading, 28 3/4in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'RICH'D HOLLIS. LONDON.' in gothic script, Rev. John Somerville's patent safety no. 5026 of 4th November 1824, use no. 65, including flat-fronted trigger-guard with sprung safety locking the triggers, non-rebounding back-action locks, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, the triggerguard engraved 'SOMERVILLE'S PATENT NO. 65 BY W. MACLAUCHLAN.', 14 1/2in. figured stock (insert repair to right overhorn) including fully engraved steel buttplate, Hackett-type snap-on fore-end with horn finial, weight 8lbs. 3oz.
